The World Cookbook for Students

The World Cookbook for Students

Jeanne Jacob, Michael Ashkenazi, "The World Cookbook for Students"
Greenwood Press | 2007 | ISBN: 0313334560 | Pages: 1312 | PDF | 7.11 MB
The student body in the United States is ever more diverse, and librarians have a major new resource to help them with the frequent requests from students who have assignments that include finding ethnic recipes. This 5-volume cookbook set is directly related to the middle school and high school multicultural curricula. It will be the source to turn to for multicultural, immigration, and foreign language units. The World Cookbook for Students fills a demand for more and different recipes for most countries and many ethnic groups. Many librarians still cling to an old Time-Life set, and this new set aims to replace that. Although there are many cookbooks out there and many recipes are available on the Internet, not all are geared to students, and no in-print sets or series match this depth. The volumes are organized alphabetically by country or group name. Each entry includes a brief introduction to the land and people and their cuisine and then an overview of the foodstuffs, typical dishes, and styles of eating in simple bulleted lists. Approximately 5 recipes are provided per country/ethnic group of typical dishes and holiday fare, for a total of 1,198. Each recipe is introduced and contextualized. Other elements include boxed material to highlight such things as a regional staple, thumbnail maps and illustrations, an introduction to the set, a bibliography with print and online resources, and a set index in each volume.

The Wheat-Free Cook Gluten-Free Recipes for Everyone

The Wheat-Free Cook Gluten-Free Recipes for Everyone

Jacqueline Mallorca, "The Wheat-Free Cook: Gluten-Free Recipes for Everyone"
William Morrow Cookbooks | 2009 | ISBN: 0061663409 | Pages: 240 | PDF | 920 Kb
The Wheat-Free Cook is the ultimate cookbook for those with celiac disease and everyone else who has found that they simply feel better when they avoid wheat. Veteran cookbook author Jacqueline Mallorca takes gluten-free cooking into the mainstream by creating delectable recipes that appeal to everyone at the table.
Inspired by her travels in Europe as well as the wine country cuisine of northern California, Mallorca presents approachable recipes for everything from breakfast and quick weeknight suppers to elegant dinner-party fare. Boneless trout with crispy crumbs takes just five minutes to broil; chicken meat loaf wrapped in prosciutto doubles as a tasty pâté; rustic seed bread looks and tastes as though it comes from an artisanal bakery; and chestnut and sausage dressing upstages the holiday bird. In addition, Mallorca presents a nutritionally sound, lighter style of baking that results in fabulous cakes and cookies. If you like to eat but without the wheat, The Wheat-Free Cook should be at the top of your shopping list.

Sushi Food for the Eye the Body and the Soul

Sushi Food for the Eye the Body and the Soul

Sushi: Food for the Eye, the Body and the Soul
Publisher:Springer | Pages: 330 | 2009-09-29 | ISBN 1441906177 | PDF | 38.1 MB
In recent decades, sushi has gone from being a rather exotic dish, eaten by relatively few outside of Japan, to a regular meal for many across the world. It is quickly gathering the attention of chefs and nutritionists everywhere. It has even made its way into numerous home kitchens where people have patiently honed the specialized craft required to prepare it. Few have been more attuned to this remarkable transition than Ole G. Mouritsen, an esteemed Danish scientist and amateur chef who has had a lifelong fascination with sushi’s central role in Japanese culinary culture.
Sushi for the eye, the body, and the soul is a unique melange of a book. In it, Mouritsen discusses the cultural history of sushi then uses his scientific prowess to deconstruct and explain the complex chemistry of its many subtle and sharp taste sensations. He also offers insights from years of honing his own craft as a sushi chef, detailing how to choose and prepare raw ingredients, how to decide which tools and techniques to use, and how to arrange and present various dishes.

Food.com's recipe search is worth getting excited about. It comes from Food Network founder Scripps Networks, but can pull recipes from Epicurious, Food & Wine, Cooking Light, Gourmet, Chow.com—basically, any food site you've heard of.
Not only does it pull basic recipe links and descriptions from all those third-party sites, but it grabs the full ingredient lists, pictures, user ratings, and preparation/serving instructions, then categorizes them for search refining. So if you're looking for a Vietnamese dish to whip up tonight, but you don't want anything deep-fried, and you'd like the main ingredient to be chicken, Food.com can help you get there.
You can save recipes you find to your "Recipe Box" by grabbing them whole and dragging them into a little AJAX box at the bottom of your page view, and also add recipes to your box from sites not covered by Food.com's rather extensively searchy fingers, or upload your own entirely new text recipe. There's a toolbar to help with collecting and searching recipes (as if you didn't have enough already—where's our bookmarklet?), and the front page provides a history of your searches for quickly getting back to what you just found.

Bachelor's Grub Guide: Easy Cooking for Men
There are an awful lot of men out there who are struggling
to get through the burger and baked bean barrier. Fear
not, help is at hand. Although this book will not turn you
into the next ‘super chef’, it will teach you how to cook a
variety of meals ranging from simple dishes, such as
scrambled eggs, to others that are more elaborate.
Cooking is regarded by many as a chore, its purpose being
purely to sustain life with as little effort as possible. Perhaps
you rarely cook for yourself, preferring to rely on others or
on take-aways or ready-to-cook meals. If you are one such
person then it’s time to change. Being able to cook is not
solely a useful social skill. It should provide enjoyment and
entertainment. Not only is it nice to cook for a partner,
it is something that can be enjoyed together.
Another benefit from being able to cook is that it might get you out of the
washing-up if you have prepared a meal.
